Fire Extinguishers
Both Domestic and Commercial Fire Extinguishers come in a range of different groups depending upon the type of fire they are designed to extinguish. At Fire and Safety Solutions Ltd (FASS) we are able to offer an extensive range of Fire Extinguishers and if required, recommend the correct extinguisher for your needs.
Fire Extinguishers are covered by the British Standard which is BS EN3 for portable Extinguishers and for specific fires such as cooking fat, they must be BS 7937. By law, all extinguishers must also have the BAFE mark. Fire Extinguishers broadly fall into the following categories:
- Water Filled Extinguishers
The most common and effective fire extinguisher, these are used for free burning materials such as wood, cardboard, textiles etc. These are available in a range of sizes up to 9 litres, with a corrosion resistant finish, protective plastic base and wall mountable hook. - Carbon Dioxide Extinguishers
Co2 fire extinguishers are designed specifically for use on electrical items or flammable liquids and is harmless to delicate or sensitive equipment. These are available in 2kg or 5kg sizes, with a corrosion resistant finish and wall mountable hook. - Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers
Although this type of extinguisher is suitable for virtually all fire types, they are designed to tackle gas related fires such as butane and propane. They come in a range of capacities, 1kg, 2kg, 4kg, 6kg or 9kg with a corrosion resistant finish, protective plastic base and wall mountable hook. - Foam Filled Extinguishers
Spray Foam fire extinguishers can be used on a range of fire types including flammable and volatile liquids such as petrol and are also safe to use on electrical fires. The come in a range of capacities, 1kg, 2kg, 4kg, 6kg or 9kg with a corrosion resistant finish, protective plastic base and wall mountable hook. - Wet Chemical Extinguishers
Wet Chemical Fire Extinguishers are designed specifically to tackle oil and fat related fires such as domestic chip pan fires as well as being able to be used on general household fires and are available as 6 litre capacity. - Stainless Steel finish
For areas where the design of an extinguisher is important, such as a heritage building, FASS are able to offer a range of extinguishers finished in stainless steel which are either 6 or 9 litre capacity and filled with water, foam or powder.
Fire Extinguisher Maintenance
By law commercial premises have to ensure Fire Extinguishers are checked annually and this is also recommended for domestic extinguishers too, where there is a high risk environment, for example where chemicals are in use, fire extinguishers should be checked every 6 months. FASS are able to carry out full safety checks on your fire extinguishers and issue you with a Certificate of Inspection.
