Fire Suppression Systems

Within most environments there is a risk of fire, especially within an industrial workplace or a restaurant kitchen for example. But increasingly so, with offices now containing large volumes of office equipment, the need to protect against fire damage has diversified and increased making the need ever greater to have in place suitable fire suppression systems.

Here at Fire and Safety Solutions Ltd (FASS) we have many years experience in recommending, supply, fitting and servicing a whole variety of Fire Suppression Systems for a broad range of environments and are able to offer this specialist service to you.

All of our systems are installed to at least ISO14520, BS6266 and BS5839 codes of practice and where Smoke detection is required, this is installed to BS6266 standard which provides guidance on the number and positioning of detectors.

It may seem common sense all systems should be designed and installed so that pipe runs are clear and additional joints and elbows are not added just because it’s the quickest installation method, but you would be surprised how many poorly installed systems we see which have been fitted by inexperienced companies or those looking to cut corners which could have potentially life threatening consequences.

At FASS we pride ourselves on a high quality product, fitted by experienced teams to the highest standard to safeguard not only your property or even life, but also our reputation as one of the UK’s leading Fire Safety companies.

We are able to offer a full range of Fire Suppression Systems, below is a brief overview of the common types:

CO2 Fire Suppression systems

Without question the most effective of all fire suppression systems available at extinguishing fire, it is also the most dangerous in occupied buildings and is not suitable where there are humans or animals. Because of this, they CO2 systems tend to be used in small, isolated areas although it is possible to have a full flooding system installed if suitable for the location. CO2 is so effective because it not only removes the oxygen, it cools at the same time.

Oxygen Reducing Fire Suppression systems

Suitable for larger spaces such as hangers or warehouses where conventional fire suppression systems become difficult to install, oxygen reducing systems are an effective alternative. The principle it simple, the system keeps the oxygen in the enclosed space it’s installed in below 15% constantly which removes the risk of ignition by starving the fire before it even starts.

Water Mist Fire Suppression

This system is what people commonly think of when asked to describe a fire suppression system, it’s very simple but very efficient! It does have it’s limitations, by its very nature it is covering the area with a fine water mist which makes it unsuitable for environments with high quantities of  electrical equipment such as a server room for example.

Dry Powder Fire Suppression

In such situations where Water Mist Suppression may not be suitable, an effective alternative is to use a Dry Powder Suppression System. Rather than cooling the fire, the powder is discharged which smothers the fire, starving it of oxygen and extinguishing it.
