Fire Extinguisher Calculator – How Many Extinguishers Do I Need?
a helpful guide to how many extinguisher you may need
On this page you will find a simple calculator that will give you a guide to how many fire extinguishers you require for your floor space. This is only a guide.
In order to be certain how many extinguishers you require you should have a Fire Risk Assessment carried out by Fire and Safety Solutions Ltd to make sure that there are no other factors or hazards that could affect the number of extinguishers that you require.
For most office or domestic environments, the correct Fire extinguishers is rated as Class A. This makes it suitable for flammable solids e.g paper, wood etc. Our calculator below uses the British Standard 5306 formula for calculating the number of class A extinguishers needed which roughly equates to one 13A extinguisher covering 200 square meters.
In the case of an upper floor there should be a minimum of two extinguishers with a combined rating of at least 26A. The only exception to this is if the floor area is below 100m2, and in single occupancy, then only a minimum rating of 13A is needed for the upper floor.
