PAT – Portable Appliance Testing
reducing the risk of electrical fire
What is Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)?
Portable appliance testing (PAT) by a Fire and Safety Solutions Limited engineer involves the inspection of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use.
The majority of electrical safety defects can be identified just by inspecting the electrical device, however some defects and issues can only be found by testing.
Therefor a both a visual examination and an electrical test is carried out together to identify potentially dangerous electrical faults
Although there is no legal requirement to have equipment inspected or tested, at Fire and Safety Solutions we believe it is good practice to be able to demonstrate an item has been tested.
Our engineers will label and record each item as it is tested so that you have a record of the condition and date when the PAT inspection was carried out.
Your Insurance company may also insist on PAT testing to it is worth checking this.
Key Features:
- Help identify potentially unsafe faulty electrical equipment
- Reduce the risk of injury or fire from electrical equipment
- Demonstrates a responsible attitude towards people using the electrical appliances
Fire and Safety Solutions recommend that electrical items are tested at least once a year to ensure they are safe and working correctly. However, there is a common sense approach to testing which means that if an item is used a lot or it is a high voltage appliance, for example a power tool, then we would recommend this is tested more frequently as the chance of failure is much higher. We would be happy to advise you on the time between testing for specific items if required.
All of our engineers are fully trained and highly experienced in carrying out electrical safety tests. They each not only have practical experience, they also have the correct equipment to carry out electrical tests and more importantly, the knowledge and understanding to correctly read and understand the results so that you can be advised on any corrective measures needed.
