A Testimony to our services

January 8, 2015 by FASS

“Due to the excellent free advice, I instantly knew that the company service was way above the rest and that we needed assistance from a knowledgeable professional company.” Samantha Turner, M.D. London Speaker Hire.

London Speaker HireIt is our mission to provide the best possible advice and service to our present and future clients that is second to none.

Our most recent testimonial from London Speaker Hire (extract above, repeated in full at the end) was really wonderful to receive but we thought it would be good to highlight the story behind the headline grabbing response from Samantha.

London Speaker Hire (Part of the Hive Partnership) had commissioned another company to install a fire alarm system. They were let down by them at the last minute.

London Speaker Hire Managing Director Samantha Turner turned to Google and after normal office hours found our website to be “professional and honest” and telephoned us for help and advice.

She explained that they had a 4 hour launch party the very next evening with no provision for fire safety management in place for the event. The event was in jeopardy!

Samantha’s call was put through to our Managing Director, Mr Paul Wilkinson.

Paul listened as it was explained that there was going to be more than 100 specially invited guests with free movement over 2 floors comprising a green room, warehouse, loading bay, new offices, a studio with a state of the art editing suite and rehearsal rooms. There would also be 3 live bands showcasing their talent on the night.

Paul discussed the options with Samantha. With insufficient time to survey and install an alarm system an alternative was proposed.

Paul offered his services as a qualified Fire Marshall for the event.

The next day he arrived in good time suitably attired. He installed and commissioned all the required fire extinguishers and fitted smoke detectors at strategic locations.

His next task was to brief all of the temporary event security staff with respect to their required actions and responsibilities in the event of a fire. They were issued with green light sticks and given instructions to illuminate these to highlight escape routes in the event of a fire.

With all of the guests and VIP’s arriving, Paul armed with his torch and light stick constantly patrolled the entire premises. He repeatedly checked all fire doors, machinery, electronic equipment, speakers, dry ice machines, smoke generators, power supplies and ensured no smoking laws were observed by all.

Paul doggedly continued in this role until the end of the event and everyone had safely left the premises.

With no incidents and a lot of very happy people Samantha declared the event a complete success.

Samantha’s Testimonial (In full)

‘I contacted Fire and Safety solutions as we needed to ensure health and safety for a four hour launch party we were running, very last minute as we were let down by another company, the night before our event, fire and safety solutions were able to speak to me after hours, introduce me to Paul the MD who gave me sound advice for our event. Due to the excellent free advice, I instantly knew that the company service was way above the rest and that we needed assistance from a knowledgeable professional company as such. We booked Paul as the qualified Marshall for the four hour event and he fitted in the fire extinguishers prior to the start ensuring we were all set for the job. The service was outstanding! Friendly, professional and the availability on such short notice saved the day and my peace of mind. We look forward to Fire and safety solutions fitting our fire alarms ready for us to officially open. I will highly recommend them!! Great!

How to Stay Safe at Christmas

November 24, 2014 by FASS

christmas-tree
Always ensure Christmas tree lights are good quality and in correct working order
Christmas is a special time for celebration and should not end in tragedy because of the extra hazards that are present at this time of year.

Read our top tips for having a great time and staying safe.

Did you know –

  • Candles caused around 1,000 UK house fires, resulting in 9 deaths and 388 casualties, in 2011/12.
  • Fairy lights went up in smoke causing 20 fires, while Christmas trees, decorations and cards were also a fire risk and responsible for 47 house fires, leading to 20 non-fatal casualties, across the UK.

(Source: 2011/12 Fire Statistics Great Britain from the Department for Communities and Local Government).

A real Christmas tree in your home requires special fire safety precautions to be taken. A burning tree can rapidly fill a room with fire and deadly gases.

This can be seen by viewing the following video:

Our 12 “Do’s” For A Safe Christmas

  1. DO NOT USE CANDLES OR TEA LIGHTS ON A REAL CHRISTMAS TREE.
  2. Do place all candles and tea lights in a proper heat resistant holder on a solid surface away from all combustibles such as curtains, wrapping paper, Christmas cards, paper decorations and garlands.
  3. Do keep all candles away from areas where they could be knocked over by children or pets.
  4. Do not move candles when they’re burning. Extinguish candles before moving them. Also, don’t let anything fall into the hot wax like match sticks.
  5. Do extinguish candles before going out or to bed. Never place a burning candle in a child’s bedroom.
  6. Do ensure that before you light an open fire in your grate that the chimney has been swept of soot by a professional to avoid a possible chimney fire.
  7. Do use only proper fire lighters designed for that purpose and follow the manufacturers’ instructions for use. NEVER use petrol or any other fuel!
  8. Do keep open fires guarded with a fire screen at all times, especially important if there are children or pets in your home. Wood will spit (spark) and eject pieces of burning wood especially if it is wet.
  9. Do use only proper tools to tend the fire e.g. tongs, poker etc
  10. Do not overload plug sockets with extension leads to power your Christmas decorations. Use 1 socket per plug. Turn off all Fairy lights when you go out or go to bed.
  11. Do not let the bulbs touch anything that can burn easily, like paper.
  12. DO ENJOY YOUR CHRISTMAS DINNER BUT DO NOT COOK WHEN YOU HAVE HAD TOO MUCH TO DRINK. MOST FIRES BEGIN IN THE KITCHEN.

Follow our safety tips and have a wonderful Christmas but if the worst happens, get out, stay out and call 999.
